11.02.2008 - Design as Play

recently i've been working with the idea of "user as center," a new and popular notion in the design community (and really, has that idea ever not been in our minds?), and most notably the idea that interaction with a piece will keep the audience (i.e. user) interested. this is very true with package design, and some of the best packaging for cosmetics are as playful as they are beautiful.

during a break from my work, i stumbled upon two things: "design as play" by ulla-maaria mutanen, and fellow indexhibit user and former college mate oliver munday's "fire in the hole" typeface.

... well, this definitely explains my recent obsession with playing cards.
