butoh, a japanese dance form emerging from the post-World War II/ post-apocalyptic era, is an avant garde form of performance, depicting horror and fear before the dancer and audience can find solitude and serenity within the work. i was initially exposed to this during a class on japanese music and performing arts, and i am very excited to go see the butoh dance group perform at the kennedy center next week. till then, youtube will have to do.
